The voices are often recorded outside of the studio. The dialogue is also recorded from the script. If the backgrounds are painted in an external software, it is recommended that you do the locations (key backgrounds) colour styling in that same external software. It can be done on paper or directly in an animation software. It doesn't really have an impact on the pipeline. Colour StylingĬolour styling can be done before or after the animation. You can also design them on paper and scan them in, but this requires a bit more work and handling.

We recommend that you design the characters, props and locations directly within the animation software to keep everything digital and save time. They are sketched several times over until the final design is approved, cleaned up, added to the model pack and sent to colour styling. The design team will take charge of the character, prop and location design as soon as the script is locked.

This process is similar to any other workflow. The storyboard artist will start working on the storyboard. This comes from either the studio itself or the client requesting the project.īy closely following the script, the design team will begin the character, props and locations and design. It is the foundation of the whole project. The ScriptĪll projects start with a script. Other than the script, audio recording and post-production, all of the tasks are accomplished within the animation software. In this workflow example, we tried to eliminate a maximum number of traditional steps and keep all of the steps in an integrated pipeline. While some steps can all be done in the animation software and simultaneously, some other steps, like animation, animation clean-up and ink and paint, require that the previous steps be done completely before moving to the next.įamiliarize yourself with this simplified version and then move to the next graphic explaining in more details how the various steps connect.Ī paperless production is meant to use a very small amount of paper or eliminate it altogether. The paperless workflow is a mix between traditional animation and digital animation workflow.
